About SmallSchoolFinder
There are tens of thousands of small schools in the US — microschools, Montessori studios, forest schools, hybrid programs, homeschool co-ops — and most of them are effectively invisible. The big directories list the networks. The schools parents actually find are passed around in Facebook groups and word of mouth, with no tuition, no days-per-week, and no funding information attached.
SmallSchoolFinder is the neutral, cross-network list: every small school we can document, whatever network or none, shown with the numbers parents decide on — tuition with its school year and source, days per week, grades, class size, legal category, and funding accepted program by program, each with a verification date.
We do not rank schools and we do not review them. Outcome evidence across this sector is thin, and a star rating on a 20-student school would be theatre, not information. A listing here is not an endorsement: it means the facts on the page were documented from the sources shown, on the dates shown.
Who runs it
SmallSchoolFinder is an independent directory run by a small publisher in New Jersey. It belongs to no school network, accepts no money from ESA program administrators, and is not an official record for any state or funding program.
The short version of our rules
Every listing is labelled Listed (public record), School-confirmed, or Verified for the current school year, with a last-checked date. Tuition and funding figures always show their school year and source. A listing is not an endorsement — visit, ask for references, check your state’s requirements.
